Racers Emergency Support Program was formed in October, 1986, following the death of Billy Todd, owner/driver of the Top Fuel Hydro, “Billy The Kid”. Its initial mission was to create and maintain an organization to assist, both financially and emotionally, the families of drag boat racers that have been injured or killed while participating in the sport of drag boat racing. To this day, its mission remains the same.
To date, Racers Emergency Support Program has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash assistance and countless hours of time assisting the families with anything needed throughout a crisis. RESP volunteers have personally provided baby-sitting, grocery shopping, transportation, gardening and a variety of other domestic related jobs. Over the years, RESP has chartered air-ambulances, helicopters, hired housekeepers, made house payments, hospital payments and even funeral arrangements. The network of volunteers are at every boat race from coast to coast with cash on hand for immediate assistance such as an unplanned hotel stay or airline tickets to get family to the injured racer.
Racers Emergency Support Program relies on your support in order to support others in need. Please join RESP or make a tax deductible contribution to this most worthy cause.
